German laboratory Boehringer Ingelheim was forced to close their Research and development center in the country. The decision is in line with the status of the global economy

German laboratory Boehringer Ingelheim was forced to close their Research and development center in the country.

The decision is in line with the status of the global economy. The increasing pressure of payers –mostly Europeans, where governments are having a budget crisis-, is driving multinational companies to rethink their future portfolio and find a twist to their R&D strategy.

BI had maintained their R&D center in Argentina for a very long time, which operated as support for the Core centers of US and Germany, and was made up of a staff of 33 professionals.

However, the global strategy came to reduce the number of activities and consequently, the number of activities of support centers.

It is so that presently, the local subsidiary led by Argentine Fabio Capano offered to shut its doors –with a rather attractive option in terms of market- or the relocation of the company to other areas, of course limited to some professional profiles. In conclusion, of the 33 employees, seven are being taken back by the company, mostly in quality control laboratories.

This will be to carry on with the few activities that are requested from R&D global, task that will continue performing in the neighborhood of Núñez, around the corner from the headquarters that BI used to occupy on Libertador Avenue.

Meanwhile, the local subsidiary recently moved to its new location in Munro. The rest of the employees took the option of voluntary retirement.
