Argentine president Mauricio Macri cut the ribbon at Droguería del Sud‘s new central distribution centre in the province of Buenos Aires.

Pharmabiz was present at the event, at which Drogería del Sud’s president, María Luisa Macchiavello, said the company had invested 400 million Argentine pesos ($26.9 million) in the new site, through a mixture of capital funds and bank credits, the latter mainly from the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. See image gallery

She mentioned that one in every four medicines distributed in Argentina is distributed by Droguería del Sud, and added that, although the company operated with very tight profit margins, it never ran out of stock.

Talking about the current dynamic in the sector, she expressed concern that distributors were often forced to finance points of sale, linking this problem to delays in social security payments.

As for the new plant, which employs 250 people, Macchiavello highlighted its capacity to administer 20,000 references, its six manual picking stations, and capacity to store 50,000 refrigerated products. See site

Pharmabiz exclusively broke the news of the new plant five months in advance.

In total, Droguería del Sud employs 1,400 people directly and a further 800 indirectly in distribution throughout Argentina.
